Paneer Pakoda Recipe

Paneer pakoda is a crispy and delicious Indian snack made with soft paneer cubes coated in a spiced gram flour (besan) batter and deep-fried until golden brown. It is perfect for tea time or as an appetizer.

Ingredients

250 g paneer, cut into cubes or slices

1 cup gram flour (besan)

2 tablespoons rice flour (optional, for extra crispiness)

1 teaspoon red chili powder

½ teaspoon turmeric powder

1 teaspoon coriander powder

½ teaspoon garam masala

½ teaspoon carom seeds (ajwain)

Salt to taste

Water as needed

Oil for deep frying

Chopped coriander leaves (optional)

Instructions

In a bowl, mix gram flour, rice flour, red chili powder, turmeric, coriander powder, garam masala, carom seeds, and salt.

Add water gradually and whisk to make a smooth, thick batter.

Heat oil in a deep frying pan over medium heat.

Dip each paneer piece into the batter, making sure it is fully coated.

Carefully place the coated paneer into the hot oil.

Fry until the pakodas are golden brown and crispy on all sides.

Remove with a slotted spoon and place on paper towels to drain excess oil.

Garnish with chopped coriander if desired.

Serve hot with green chutney, tamarind chutney, or tomato ketchup.

Tips

Do not make the batter too thin, or it will not coat the paneer well.

Fry on medium heat so the pakodas become crispy without burning.

Add a pinch of baking soda to the batter for lighter, fluffier pakodas if desired.
