How to Make Dhokla
Dhokla is a popular Gujarati snack that is loved across India for its soft, fluffy texture and delicious taste. It is a healthy dish made from gram flour (besan) and is often served as a breakfast item, evening snack, or light meal. Dhokla is steamed rather than fried, making it a nutritious choice for people of all ages.
In a mixing bowl, combine gram flour, semolina, salt, sugar, lemon juice, and ginger-chili paste.
Gradually add water and mix well to form a smooth batter without lumps.
Grease a steaming tray or cake tin with oil.
Immediately pour the batter into the greased tray.
Steam for about 15–20 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
Allow the dhokla to cool slightly, then cut it into square pieces.
Tempering
Heat oil in a small pan. Add mustard seeds and let them crackle. Add green chilies and curry leaves. Pour in water and cook for a few seconds. Spread this tempering evenly over the dhokla pieces.
Serving Suggestions
Serve dhokla warm with green chutney or sweet tamarind chutney. Its soft texture, tangy flavor, and aromatic tempering make it a favorite snack for family gatherings and tea-time occasions.
